Drabbles III and end.
Well, I'm finally done typing and stuff.

Pairing: Siegfred & Hilda
Line: "Gods don't save anyone."
Once again for the past weeks, they had argued. From his seat, Siegfried watched Hilda, lost in her silhouette. The woman still looked elegant and delicate as always, yet—she was another person. There hadn’t been any more rides in the forest or walks in the garden. Her eyes had stopped shinning innocently. Now, she was even rejecting him.
Also for the past few days, Hilda had been wearing her armour. Siegfried had no recollection of how beautiful she looked having it on. A fool, he thought to himself, for he could not find a reason for leaving her.
What are you looking for in me, Siegfried?
The man did not answer. There were no words to explain the confusion growing within. The one before him was not the woman he loved so much. It was like a shadow of her.
“I was just admiring you, Hilda.”
The Valkyrie turned and looked him in the eye. Furious she was. He dared to use her name without any titles? A grin forming quickly on her lips. Her brow rose. What was his plan, Hilda wondered.
The woman sat on his lap. Hilda would enjoy whatever Siegfried was willing to offer. Shame was not an obstacle between them anymore. Deep inside Hilda felt free. As free as she would never be. At least that was what she believed.
Siegfried looked at her once again. Even in that lusty position they found themselves in, she was not the same. Her eyes had changed one more time. Going from those cold eyes of hers now, to the warm ones she used to have before, and then back to cold.
“Gods don’t save anyone.” She whispered while kissing him passionately.
Siegfried allowed her to do so. She would have the command this time. He would grant her that—for a moment only.
Hilda felt the power of the ring moving within her. Her soul, her own flesh and blood being devoured by it. Siegfried gasped when she painfully moved over him. Then he stood up, taking her in his arms. Lifting her. Soon her body was lying on the bed and he was on top of her.
“I know gods don’t save anyone…”
He said while he kissed and walked away leaving her on the bed.
“…not even you, Princess.” He ended, leaving the room. Not wanting to stand her tantrums that night.

I loved this drabble when I read it. That last kiss, it's like the last rose of summer dying, and I could imagine hearing Siegfried's footsteps as he left getting fainter and fainter until there was silence. I couldn't help wondering what he was thinking, and how Hilda would react...
There was something nagging at me while I was reading the story, though, but I didn't know what it was until we spoke yesterday. It was in the back of my mind, and I was going to ask you about it, but you spoke about it first, and I thought... of course... how brilliant.
After that I read the story again with new eyes, and I was over-awed.
Everything fits, every gesture, every detail. As cold as Asgard, not just a story of failed romance, but a tragedy.
Those last words of Siegfried's left me wondering...
How much did he actually suspect, or know?
I know you won't tell, so it's kind of a rhetorical question.
Drabbles are great, but sometimes, like this time, I wish they were longer or had second chapters...
To be or not to be?
Not to be I think... hehehee.
waaaa!
