Highlander - Spoilers....maybe
This is I think one of those things people could know about me but I wouldn't be that certain.
Of course, my "first time" with Highlander took place thanks to Connor McLeod Ramirez. I was simply in love with it. Of course, with time, it came reason and I started watching the movies with a different perspective and realised that the first and second movie might not have much in common and the second one especially was a bit awkward. I mean, aliens from outter space? Michael Ironside was superb (another guy I like) but please! I preffered my Highlander all misterious and all that...anyways...
Then came movie three: Connor re-forging his sword was wonderful; Mario Van Peebles was kinda good, but he'd never be able to beat "The Kurgan". This kinda went back to the same line than the first movie.
Then the series.
The series, for God's sake. When I first saw them, it was like Connor was passing the torch to Duncan. It took Duncan quite some time to convince me, and well, I started falling for the series to the point in which I'd be up at ridiculous hours in the morning just to be able to watch it before going to work. I went through the whole series, cried when Tessa died, connected pieces when Richie became an immortal with what Connor'd said in the first episode, fell for the watchers and Joe, fell absurdely in love with Methos, Amanda was great, Fitz!, etc, etc. Until the final season which was a complete dissapointment.
Until it came the fourth movie: End of Game. I have to say it; another weird movie pretty much like the first one, with all those immportals gathering around Jacob, but what touched me the most was Connor. He looked frail and fearsome. Again, I felt like they were telling Adrian Paul "Christopher is getting old and can't be Connor McLeod anymore, you be the front man from now on." You should've seen the movie, me silently crying when Duncan unwillingly takes Connor's head. This wasn't like in the series when he cuts his friend's head and he becomes evil because his friend was an Indian who was like a vessel for evil and got full. No. This was Duncan killing the only brother/father/mentor-like figure he'd had. It would've been like Connor killing Ramírez!
My love for the series hadn't diminished, though I'm quite critical with some stuff from it. And every time I see End of Game, I freaking cry, jejejeje
Anyways, where I'm going. This week, I came home early and was all happy watching Cinemax when they announced a Highlander Movie. I screamed "Vamp! they're airing Highlander I!" and I sat to watch it. Guess what?! It wasn't that movie. It did have Duncan, and even Methos and Joe, but it wasn't Highlander anymore. It was this ridiculous sci-fi channel movie which NOBODY liked. The FX were poorly done, Duncan was not only a crying baby, but Methos should've taken his head to put him out of his misery a long time ago. Methos...they ruined Methos! Leather jacket?! Not crying when the guardian killed Joe? and Joe's last words for McLeod? I thought he was best friends with Methos! Anyways...I read the reviews over at Wikipedia and puufff...they'd were genreous with Highlander, The Source.
And the price? A child for McLeod. At least, Mac was to have what he'd always craved for. I think the only thing I liked was that he mentioned Tessa (his wife-to-be when she was killed in the series) and Kate (his wife in the movies).
What a dissapointment.
I think I'd better stick to the series up to before the final season and with my Connor movies. Otherwise, I'd be crying for Highlander got screwed up.
Back to work, I guess...
