Reading/Book Meme
Oct. 20th, 2009 09:29 pmDo you snack while you read? If so, favorite reading snack
Not really. I’m usually so into the book that I tend to forget that I have to feed myself. *blushes* However, when I do remember to eat, it’s already either lunch or dinner time…so no snacks.
Do you tend to mark your books as you read, or does the idea of writing in books horrify you?
I did that with two books in my whole life, never did it again. I think after a while it did start to be terrifying to me.
How do you keep your place while reading a book? Bookmark? Dog-ears?
Bookmark. I have some that are my favourite: a celtic one that [Bad username or site: ”muinteor” @ livejournal.com] send me from Ireland/Spain (bought it in Ireland, sent it from Spain), then a metallic one and some magnet clips that [Bad username or site: ”xitana23” @ livejournal.com] send me from Toronto to NY when I was there last December. Those are the ones I use in what I consider “important” books. Other than that, I use pieces of cute paper to keep my reading.
Laying the book flat open?
Never. It might damage the book.
Fiction, Non-fiction, or both?
Both.
Hard copy or audiobooks?
Hard copy and paper backs. Don’t like audiobooks.
Are you a person who tends to read to the end of chapters, or are you able to put a book down at any point?
I am quite able to put down a book and I’ve done so a couple of times already. Ironically, both have been vampire stories :P (Eclipse by Stephanie Mayer and Blood Canticle by Anne Rice)
If you come across an unfamiliar word, do you stop to look it up right away?
It depends. When the book is in English I don’t usually stop unless I can’t get the meaning by context and I’m then forced to use the dictionary or else I’ll get stuck. In French, I do have to stop, I’ve forgotten so many words that I’m compelled to have my monolingual French Dictionary with me at all times. In Spanish it’s not that hard, but I’ve forced myself to look for some words in the dictionary because man, some are not of common use/knowledge.
What are you currently reading?
An e-book, My Sister’s Keeper by Jodi Picoult.
What is the last book you bought?
Historias de Clóset by Claudia Arcila. (Closet Stories, a book about homosexual stories taking place in muy country).
Are you the type of person that only reads one book at a time or can you read more than one at a time?
I used to be the type of person who read one book at a time. Now I read a couple at a time.
Do you have a favorite time of day and/or place to read?
I could be reading all day, but right now, I read mostly while I’m at the metro.
Do you prefer series books or stand alone books?
It’s the same for me, as long as I like the story.
Is there a specific book or author that you find yourself recommending over and over?
Julio Cortázar. Anything by him is great.
How do you organize your books? (By genre, title, author’s last name, etc.?
Right now, I just have them in one place. I used to keep them by author, then by size. Now, they’re simply in one place…well…two places.
