I've ben thinking about getting together on an LJ community or on one of our LJ's, decide on a book to read and set deadlines. We can work on reading a whole book on a month or two, and then gather and comment it, or work on weekly chapters. I don't know. We can set dates so that we all come and "talk" about it, or just make the entry and leave it open for a certain amount of time.
That description made me even more interested, especially 'cause I've been meaning to read more books these days. :D
I think doing it in someone's (your?) LJ would be good, no need to maintain a comm or anything like that, just a casual discussion started here by you, if that's okay.
A month or two as a deadline sounds fine by me, I guess it'd depend on the length of the book. But no need to be strict either, if it's a longer book perhaps deadlines can be set for a certain point in the book (up to a particular chapter, for example). I know I've wanted to gush or rant about books somewhere while reading them! Having a post for that would be awesome, IMO.
My only concern I guess are the books. Better said, how to make sure that it's a book that everyone wishing to participate has access to. For example, in my case I don't think I could buy a new book (sigh very tight budget), but then there's always the option of finding a, cough, digital copy anyway, so maybe it won't be a big deal.
As for genres and so on, I'm willing to read (almost?) any kind. I love being surprised by a book that I wouldn't have read otherwise.
Phew, that got kind of long. In short, the more I think about the idea the more I like it! :)
I think it'd be good to start with a short book and a close deadline, such as a month, to test how it goes. To be honest I have no idea what book we could pick, but I'm open to any genre. Do you have one in mind?

Date: 2010-07-28 03:14 am (UTC)I also agree that depending on the length of the book, we can decide on deadlines together.
We can brainstorm as to what book we might like. We can use e-books and that's another option for the tight budget thing.
I'm so glad you like the idea *sniff* So, if you're good for it, let's start planning!
