True Blood
Aug. 23rd, 2009 12:27 pmI love vampires. As the song goes, “I just can’t hide it and I can’t deny it” *lol* and well, you my friends, know that very well.
Although I’ve written them (and hope to keep on doing so), I’m very weary when it comes to read them, and the reasons are a few:
1. My disappointment at Anne Rice’s turn on her Vampire Chronicles. When Lestat became a god, Louis tried to kill himself, Merrick was such a bitch, and Rowan Mayfair became Lestat’s lover I was like WTF? Of course, the list goes on, these are just samples. However, I have to admit, Pandora’s book, Armand’s and Marius’ saved my respect for the series.
2. Stephanie Meyer. Do I need to write more?
3. All the wacky movies out there. Have you seen Jhon Carpenter’s Vampires? Or that movie with Bon Jovi? Ewww. And of course, this list will go on too.
I still have to read a LOT of things vampire related, but I relieve I’ll stick to the classics, Dracula, Carmilla, etc. I’d offer myself as their supper if that were possible.
However, along came True Blood, the TV series. I admit I haven’t read this series, but unfortunately, I don’t get as many books as I’d love here in Colombia, and if I do, I’m bound to read them in Spanish, because my country is pretty much lazy when it comes to other languages. I’m considered “sui generis” by family, friends, teachers, etc; just because I do prefer books in the languages I can read (English & French). So no, I haven’t got hold of them (but I’ll look for them over the internet).
Back to the series: I’m hooked. I can’t wait every week to download it. I watched the first season on a two-day sitting and I just finished watching the last episode. I have to wait to get this week’s, but I’ll download it as soon as I can.
Now, I first thought Sookie Stackhouse was a whining bitch, but she’s grown on me. I mean, the girl’s got guts and I SO loved how she stood up to Lorena, Bill’s maker. Her relationship with Bill is bound to be…troublesome and now that I’ve read the spoilers from the book regarding their breaking up, I can say: that’s expected.
Lafayette: FUCKING AWESOME!!!!! From episode 1 he’s been amazing; the way he behaves, how awesomely gay he is. I love him! And I’m really happy they decided not to kill him in the TV series.
Bill…guilty vampire…trying to regain his humanity. Louis De Lioncourt anybody?
I don’t like Tara. Don’t ask why…I just haven’t found what to like about her.
Sam is handsome and incredibly cute as a dog.
Vamp Pam is AMAZING!!!!!!! I’ve liked her HBIC attitude, her voice, her looks. Everything about her fits. I hope they show her a lot more.
Eric. OK; I’m guilty at charge for not having found him that attractive until like…a couple of days ago? But hey, I’ll go deeper into this on a different entry. Eric is the perfect fucking stone-cold-hearted vampire. A Viking, very into rules and I love how he makes Bill go nuts over his covered infatuation with Sookie.
I can’t wait to see him “married” to Sookie (well, that if they keep it like in the books).
I really love the TV series and I hope it goes as far as the books do.

Date: 2009-08-23 08:25 pm (UTC)That was posted on the VK comm awhile back... I had a laugh. So how it is.
And I feel the same way re: Anne Rice. It all started with that horrible Memnoch book and just went down hill from there. Talk about milking it. And she's so awful to her fans, too. That's about the worst thing that can happen to a fandom - the canon goes to hell.
And I really loved those books. GOD I loved Marius, I can't even tell you. And I did like his book and Pandora's book and Armand's. GOD I loved Armand. I can't tell you how many hours my goth friends and I spent just staring at the wall, chain smoking, listening to Beethoven's Moonlight sonata over and over, feeling like life was no longer worth living after she killed him off in Memnoch. For Jesus. Cuz... yeah. Then she brought him back like, oops, sorry, heh, guess I'm TOTALLY MADE OF FAIL AS AN AUTHOR... *eyeroll* GOD having that as one of my main fandoms sucked SO HARD.
